Off Island Quays 2005 - 2008

Project Manager and Supervisor (NEC3) for the refurbishment and extension of four small vessel quays on three of the Off Islands in the Isles of Scilly. Each of these islands is only accessible by sea.

The design was primarily precast units with insitu infill, designed to encase and build upon the original 19th and 20th century structures.

Each location was only accessible by sea (no incoming road supplies), with very restricted storage areas by each site. All construction works were tidal, and all quays needed to remain open or provide alternative access for existing ferry services during the works. All materials and plant were shipped to the sites by landing craft, loaded 30 nautical miles to the east at Penzance on the mainland. Weather was a dominant consideration throughout the works.
